‘Image sharing websites have taken the digital world by storm.’
Pinterest is one of the most popular image sharing websites. It allows individuals to set up an online profile where they can post personal information, upload photographs, pin images sourced from other websites and organise the material in virtual pinboards which are available publicly.
Jisc Legal has published a paper and video on Pinterest, Image Sharing Websites and the Law. The resources will help staff to understand the legal considerations when using an image sharing social network.

Forbes Magazine had an excellent article about this a year ago at http://www.forbes.com/sites/kaifalkenberg/2012/03/15/a-one-word-fix-to-pinterests-legal-problem/. The 'fair use' defence being likely to get most people off the hook, but be wary of using anything from Getty Images whose lawyers are merciless!
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, if you want to copy text in a post it's a good idea to use the little 'T with a cross' button on the toolbar to remove original formatting. And, of course, comments about the JISC article should go to them not 'us'!
