Tablet ease?

Initial thoughts on the "tools"
We have a consensus that Go Animate and Animoto seem to be the most "interesting" for staff to try out. We're taking the view that we would like to try them out with ordinary desk-based PC systems access, and also with Tablet system access, to try and identify and weaknesses in using new technologies.
Google Docs and Google Forms seem to crop up an awful lot, in the toolbox, and I might take some swaying from using SkyDrive (my favoured Cloud Hub resource). More testing to do!  06 March 2013

We have four members of staff accessing the toolbox, two from the admin/systems side and two of our direct teaching staff. Our initial focus is upon briefly accessing all of the steps of the leaner journey, with a view to arriving at a consensus of opinion, on four elements of the toolbox. Supplementary to this focus, two of our participants are using 10" Tablet technology to access the toolbox, hoping to provide a low-level critique of accessibility, ease of use, and overall usefulness. If we identify that the Tablet technology works well, we aim to involve learners in accessing the toolbox.

Initially, our collective thoughts are that the toolbox offers an interesting number of "tools", but a number of tools overlap into other steps of the learner journey. Provisionally we like the Animoto, Go!Animate, and Job Search tools.  08 March 2013

Open Door Adult Learning Centre are planning to use a 10 inch tablet  to trial the resources and then give learners the opportunity to take this into the work place. Terry  I look forward to hearing more about this and the feedback from your learners.

Animoto

Hi All

I have just used Animoto for the first time. A nice simple to use tool that allows you to easily create a presentation. The free version only lets you record 30 seconds of material but for a small fee you can upgrade. I can see this as a good advertising resource allowing you to quickly create a cost effective marketing package.

Image sharing websites have taken the digital world by storm

Dear All

I wondered if the below may be of interest to you ?

Thanks

Pinterest, Image Sharing Websites and the Law

‘Image sharing websites have taken the digital world by storm.’

Pinterest is one of the most popular image sharing websites. It allows individuals to set up an online profile where they can post personal information, upload photographs, pin images sourced from other websites and organise the material in virtual pinboards which are available publicly.

Jisc Legal has published a paper and video on Pinterest, Image Sharing Websites and the Law. The resources will help staff to understand the legal considerations when using an image sharing social network.

So Far So Good
I have now allocated 8 resources, Go Animate, Job Match, Morguefile, Open Culture, Practical Aptitude Tests, Quizlet, Remember the milk and Google calendar.

A member of staff has informed me that she has used Quizley successfully in many of her lessons - so a good one for everyone else to try.

I looked into Google Calendar which I found very similar to Microsoft Outlook Calendar with the additional feature of text message alerts which is a great tool if you are one of those people who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Useful for me for things like kids dental appointments.  Easy to set up and use. Will continue to investigate the ease of sharing diary entries with other people.

What to do..? Who knows...

There'll be a lot going on right bang in the middle of this trial. Perhaps that'll give you an idea for something to do with the tools!

And all your trial blogs need to be done before someone else returns to our screens at the end of March!
